Elected Officers
Committee Chairs/Project Coordinators
Steve Austen, President
Steve Austen, #163, is president of the Association, having served previously as treasurer, secretary, and vice-president. Steve joined CAP in 1965. On his way to earning Spaatz #161 (and later, Falcon #103), he was C/CC of his home unit, Chairman of his Wing and Regional CAC's, a member of the NCAC, and earned his Wing's Cadet of the Year award. He participated in the Spiritual Life Conference, Advanced Cadet Leadership Symposium, Air Force Academy Survival Course and IACE, plus six summer encampments serving as C/CC and DCC/Cadets. He commanded the East Bank Composite Squadron (Louisiana Wing), which earned a "Squadron of the Year" award and later served as LAWG's Director of Public Affairs. Most recently, he was named as "Senior Member of the Year" for both North Carolina Wing and the Middle East Region. Steve and his wife Judy reside in Monroe, North Carolina. He is a Human Resources Manager with Wal-Mart Logistics and also serves on the Boards of Directors for his county United Way and Chamber of Commerce organizations. (Term expires in 2006)
Bobbie-Jean Tourville, Vice President
Bobbie Tourville, #940, serves as the Association's Vice President, and has served a total of four terms on TSA's board of directors. A Massachusetts native, she received her baccalaureate and master's degrees from Faulkner University. A 1989 recipient of Civil Air Patrol's General Carl A. Spaatz Award, and 1996 recipient of the Gill Rob Wilson Award, she is presently an Operations Manager at Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Richard Griffith, Secretary
Richard Griffith, #1228, handles all administrative matters for the Association and maintains the official membership rolls. Richard is an active-duty captain in the U.S. Air Force's Medical Services Corps, presently stationed at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. He holds a baccalaureate degree from Indiana University and a Master's degree from Baylor University. Richard remains active with the Cadet Program and concurrently serves as the Deputy Commander for Cadets for the 50 cadets in the local squadron, Mississippi Wing Director of Cadet Programs, and Assistant Director of the National Health Service Program. Richard is married to fellow Spaatzen Jamie Foote, #1329. (Term expires in 2006)
Tim Cheslock, Treasurer
TSA treasurer Tim Cheslock, #1173, handles all financial matters for the Association. Tim served a cadet in CAP's Pennsylvania Wing, joining in 1987. He earned the Spaatz award in June of 1993 and was recognized as both Pennsylvania Wing and Northeast Region Cadet of the Year. Tim remains active in the wing, having served as a group commander, deputy group commander, and wing ground operations director, he currently assists the wing's Cadet Programs directorate. Tim is a member of the Hawk Mountain Ranger School staff, and has served in many positions including Commander of this National Cadet Special Activity. Tim is also a captain in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, where he is a physician assistant with Co E, 728 MSB, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In civilian life, Tim is a physician assistant with experience in Emergency Medicine and Family Practice. He recently returned to school and is pursuing a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Lake Erie College of Medicine. (Term expires in 2007)
Bob Mattes, Scholarship Committee Chair
Bob Mattes, #445, coordinates all aspects of the Association's scholarship activities. Bob is an active-duty colonel in the United States Air Force, whose previous assignments include service as Commander, 412th Operations Support Squadron and Deputy Commander, 412th Operations Group at the Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, California. He currently reports directly to the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Advanced Systems and Concepts in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, leading the Comparative Testing Office and working directly with the governments and industries of 27 nations as well as congressional staffs. Bob holds a Command Pilot rating with over 3700 flying hours. (Term at discretion of TSA Board of Directors)
Matt Johnson, Technical Issues Coordinator
Matt Johnson, #901, serves as technical coordinator for the Association's Internet-based projects, including the official website and the technical aspects of the Association's mentoring initiative. Matt is a former professional website developer and has done work for several Fortune 500 companies. He is a graduate of the University of Utah and has served in CAP command and staff capacities at the squadron, group and wing level. Matt holds an FAA commercial pilot certificate and resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. (Term at discretion of TSA Board of Directors)
Larry Trick, Membership Search Coordinator
Larry Trick, #452, served as president of the Association from 1998 to 2000 and was vice president from 1997 to 1998. He currently leads the effort to locate all missing Spaatz Award recipients. A U.S. Navy civil service employee, Larry is program manager for America's newest X-plane, the X-49A Vectored Thrust Ducted Propeller advanced technology demonstrator, at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State University and previously commanded CAP's Maryland Wing. (Term at discretion of TSA Board of Directors)
